Sapporo Dining Table by Mario Marenco for Mobil Girgi, Italy, 1975

Beautiful architectual Sapporo dining table designed by Mario Marenco and manufactured by Mobil Grigi in Italy, 1975. This robust table is solidly constructed of warm walnut wood with rounded edges. It shows a variety of wood tones, giving it a layered surface and extra dimension. The legs are slightly angled, both seen from the side as the front. They are connected to an construction under the top. In that way the tabletop appears to float on the base because of the space thats between the top and the feet. This makes the table look light against the bold appearance of the wood. A nice detail on the top is the way the end slats are positioned. They are placed the opposite to the direction of the long slats, making an interesting design. The feet can be easily removed for easy transport. In very good original condition. The chairs are not included in this listing but can be purchased here. Mario Marenco was born in 1933. He studied archi­tec­ture in Naples and won research grants for Stock­holm and Chicago. In 1960 he opened in Rome his own atelier of archi­tec­ture and design named Studio DEGW in Rome. During his career as an archi­tect, he taught at the Univer­sity of Sydney and worked with compa­nies such as B&B, Arflex and Poltrana Frau. Mario Marenco is also known for his appear­ances on TV but his career as an actor and humorist has never over­shad­owed his predis­po­si­tion for design. Mobilgirgi was an Italian company producer of high quality furniture, founded in 1968 in Cantù, in the province of Como.
