19th Century Austrian Oil Painting Depicting a Farm Scene with Two Maidens by Anton Brioschi

An Austrian unframed oil on canvas painting by Anton Brioschi (30 November 1855, Vienna – 31 August 1920, Vienna) depicting a farm scene with two young maidens. Created in Austria during the Turn of the Century (19th to 20th), this oil on canvas painting depicts a humble and peaceful farm scene. The composition is carefully organized, the right side dedicated to the farm with yellow and green shutters responding to the colors of the landscape around beautifully. The arch marking the entrance to the inner courtyard leads our eye to discover this private settings. The property is secured behind a stone wall covered with ivy. The left side of the composition is occupied by a sinuous dirt path on which two maidens, seen from the back, are walking. Their bright colors allow them to stand out beautifully. The contrast between the light and shadows brings everything together, giving great depth to the ensemble. Anton Brioschi was a scenic designer as well as a graphic artist. His non-theatrical works were mostly landscapes and marine art. This painting is unframed and signed in red lower right.
